Should Gator fans be concerned about injuries?

A lot of people are concerned that Florida’s season is completely tarnished. Well don’t think so fast, because its not.

With quarterback Jeff Driskel and DT Dominique Easley out for the remainder of the season, yeah its a big blow but its no reason to hang your head. I honestly don’t see too much of a change from this. I think its going to be more interesting to see how their offense develops with Tyler Murphy taking the snaps.

With the absence of Driskel, offensive coordinator Brent Pease will have to shake things up a bit and that could be a good thing. Maybe a change is what the Gators need.

Both Driskel and Murphy are dual-threat quarterbacks but Florida seemed like they were digging a bigger hole with Driskel and that conservative ball-control offense.

Murphy can make more things happen on the ground, which should allow Pease to run a Urban Meyer pro-style offense.

Florida has always been known by having a monster defense, so with the loss of Easley I don’t think there will be any drastic. Their defense is young and talented and they should be exciting to watch.

UF’s Driskel stays positive

Red-shirt junior quarterback Tyler Murphy received advice and words of encouragement from teammate Jeff Driskel, who went down with a leg injury during last weeks Tennessee game. Driskel had surgery done on his leg early Tuesday.

“It was tough to see him go down,” Murphy said. “Anytime you spend a lot of time with someone in the meeting room, off the field, setting up players’ practices in the summer, stuff like that, it’s just tough because you know we kind of built a good little relationship.

“I texted him and told him I wish him the best. Hopefully he can get healthy and get back out as soon as possible. He said, ‘It’s your time now.’ He was very encouraging. He said he was just going to help me along the way.”

Offensive coordinator Brent Pease said that Driskel will still involved with the team and their activities and he believes Driskel will overcome this nightmare.

“It sets you back emotionally because I think he’s put a lot of time and investment into preparing himself, getting better,” Pease said. “It’s something you’ve got to overcome. It’s part of football.

“The good thing with Jeff is that he’ll overcome it, he’ll come back and be fine. He’ll just have to get back in the swing of things. It’s going to take four to five to six months for that to happen.

“He was in our meetings yesterday. He told Tyler (Murphy) and said it to me, ‘Whatever you need me to do, I’ll be glad to help. I’m there for you.’ He’s a supportive teammate.”

Its a positive sign to see Driskel in good spirits after losing the rest of his season. The kid has a lot of heart and will remain right beside the team the entire way. Now its up to Tyler Murphy to step up and lead this young team to some victories.
